Dear All
The Boat lifts on the air event which aims to get going in September has been brought to my attention by MIDCARS and part of the content of the e-mails I have received is shown below. It seems this content has been sent to some other clubs who have agreed to participate but we have yet to fully discuss and determine potential numbers who might be interested in participation. As I will be away in Sept please let Jeff know if you are interested in taking part.

On behalf of Mid Cheshire Amateur Radio Society, I would like to thank you for agreeing to participate in this event.
We currently plan to have four Boat Lifts active on Sun 14th Sept. These are:
The Anderton Boat Lift in Cheshire, UK – operated by MIDCARS and neighbouring Clubs
The Falkirk Wheel, Scotland – operated by Stirling and Falkirk clubs
The Rothensee Boat Lift, nr Magdeburg, Germany – operated by Magdeburg Clubs
The Henrichenburg Boat Lift, nr Dortmund, Germany – operated by Oer -Erkenschwick / Recklinghausen club
There is also the possibility of another Lift in Holland, but I am yet to receive a reply from the nearest club.
MIDCARS intend to request a special call-sign for this event and we will be requesting permission to operate and discussing details of our plans with the boat lift operators. The easiest option is for each operating group to do the same with their local boat lift and National Amateur Radio Authority, so could I ask that you undertake to do this?
As you already know, the current plan is to operate on a small cluster of frequencies on 40M, with the event being publicised as widely as possible to encourage other amateurs to try and contact all of the Boat Lift stations. Although most contacts will probably be SSB, it would be good to also operate data modes, such as PSK31, RTTY or SSTV.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions for how we operate, please let me know. We will then produce a detailed plan for the event which we can send to magazines, RSGB, DARC etc.
