Built by Racal, MEL and Plessey, Clansman represented a considerable advance over existing radios being offered to the Armed Forces at the time. It replaced the ageing Larkspur radio system, and proved to be more flexible, reliable and far lighter. The technological advances achieved in the design of Clansman allowed the introduction of Single Side Band (SSB) operation and Narrow Band Frequency Modulation (NBFM) to field-level communications for the first time.

The Clansman Range

PRC319
1.5 > 40 MHz
50W USB CW DATA

PRC320
1.8 > 30 MHz
30W USB CW AM

VRC321
1.8 > 30 MHz
40W USB CW AM

VRC322 A 321
PLUS A 250W AMPLIFIER

PRC344
225 >399.95 MHz
2W AM

PRC 349
37 > 46.95 MHz
2W FM

PRC 350
36 > 56.95 MHz
2W FM

PRC351
30 > 75.975 MHz
4W FM

PRC 352 A 351
PLUS A 20W AMPLIFIER

VRC353
30 > 75.975 MHz
50W FM

Next

Clansman Radios and other equipment – Lee G0AMU • 1976 TO 2010 • UK/PRC PORTABLE RADIO COMMUNICATOR • UK/VRC VEHICLE RADIO COMMUNICATOR Clansman was developed in the 1970s, to satisfy a General Staff Requirement (GSR) laid down in 1965.
