Members will be invited to stand up and say a few words.
It would help if you come prepared with a short topic of your choice on which to speak.
However if this leaves you with a blank here are some thoughts to help you.
Introduce yourself to the club your name and call are good for starters.
When did you join the club and what were your reasons for joining at that time??
How well have your initial joining objectives been fulfilled? What are you looking for in a radio club today? How well does WARC meet your present day requirements.
What aspect of radio and electronics interests you most. Expand on this.
Would you describe yourself as active in radio or just passively interested?
Any thoughts for the future? -

Sat17Sep2016Sun18Sep201610:00 Hooton Park Ellesmere Port
RAF Hooton Park, on the Wirral Peninsula, Cheshire, was a Royal Air Force station originally built for the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 as a training aerodrome for pilots in World War I. During the early/mid-1930s, it was one of the two airfields (with Liverpool Speke) handling scheduled services for the Merseyside region. Hooton Park was home to No. 610 (County of Chester) Squadron and, post World War II, to No. 611 (West Lancashire) and No. 663 (AOP) Squadron. The airfield closed in 1957 on the disbandment of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, but the three pairs of Belfast Truss hangars erected in 1917 survived the closure. The site was bought byVauxhall Motors, who built their Vauxhall Ellesmere Port plant there, which today produces the Vauxhall Astra. A small remaining section of the airfield site is now owned and managed by The Hooton Park Trust. The hangars are also home to The Griffin Trust and 'The Aeroplane Collection.'

Practical time again
In the clubroom, come try out your frequency meter. Jack will bring his off air standard. Make sure you arrive in good time to let your meter stabilise as most take some time to warm up.
Meanwhile, outside - assuming the weather is good - it's practice time. In June there will be a 2 metre walking DF hunt around the village so some and make sure your kit works in the car park.
Oh, and as usual, get some practice in in the shack

Ok - it's DF hunt time again
As per last time, we'll be hiding in Grappenhall. Come and find us. Two stations, same channel, 2 metres.
Lessons learnt from last time
- close in on foot the signals can be large - attenuators help. Will drop the power down more after 30 minutes
- we should probably pick a quieter frequency - will announce that at 8pm in 145.450 - we'll either be there or will announce a change in frequency

Drawing on music, detective fiction, bellringing and electronics, Paul, m0xpd, will describe his recent fun and games with the new type of ‘Step Sequencer’ which he has been developing, based upon some 400 year old permutations. Sequencers are simple state machines, similar to the ‘keyers’ familiar in amateur radio, which produce repeated patterns. These devices are widely used in the production and performance of contemporary music. Ignoring the old advice about never working with children and animals, Paul will attempt to interrupt his talk with some noisy demonstrations

At the AGM we need to discuss this year's rally and elect a committee to organise next year. As you all are aware Peter Smith (G2DPL), our Treasurer for many years, sadly went SK this year so we also need a new Treasurer. Chris has been the acting Treasurer and couldn't help noticing that internet banking is at odds with the constitution which requires "two signatures"! It is therefore proposed that we amend the constitution at the AGM to remove this requirement.

James Clerk Maxwell became one of the most eminent physicist of the 19th century, and arguably sits along great names such as Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein. Best remembered for establishing the relationship between electric and magnetic fields and the existence of propagating electromagnetic waves, paving the way for the pioneering development of radio communication systems which are so essential in today’s technology and the hobby we enjoy.
David G0BCU will look at his early life, academic career, notable achievements and those who continued his work after his early death. Finally his talk would not be complete without visiting Maxwell’s Equations, David will explain the significance of these equations in an easy to understand way.
David’s working career spanned 45 years in electrical engineering design becoming a Principal Engineer. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer (C.Eng) and member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He is also a member of WARC.

This talk-presentation on LA1ASK, by Peter Ebsworth, LB0K & G8CBK, is really of the history of broadcasting around the city of Bergen and especially of the transmitting site at Erdal. The first MW AM Tx was thrown up in a part of the city, then finally moved to a site giving coverage to the city centre and to the westerly coastal area.Having been shut down in 1978 it’s ‘rescue’ from demolition was partly due to a member of the Bergen Group of NRRL. A number of members from this group are now some of those providing guidance and research into the history of the installation. These people have formed a ‘Friends group’ if you like, and we keep an eye on the buildings and contents in return for using the building as a clubhouse. The Telefunken TX itself is still untouched, and in situ, it is a good illustration of the efforts put into glorifying technological advances still in the 20s and 30s. And the Marconi transmitter is also still in place in the basement. One of the remits we have is to continue broadcasting from the site, as a museum activity and to keep a (national) presence on the Medium Waves, this is fulfilled on the two frequencies of 1314 and 1611KHz. We are now using more modern FET based transmitters.
We also have the concession for 830KHz, and are active on FM 93.8MHz with another concession.Brief details of Peter LB0K are: Licensed in 1995-6 as LB0K, after 3-4 attempts. Came from SW London many years ago.Worked in marine positioning and surveying systems, in several places. And for the last 12 years I have been instructing on the courses for the license exam. There is just the one level here and the exam is set a couple of times each year in different places.Up to this year we had collectively aided 130 people with getting their licenses and now have 22 participants from around the country taking web based instruction, soaking up information, and posing difficult questions!

This Tuesday will not quite be as envisaged.
Last week, the Daves and Jeff had planned to do some E and H field measurements, the results of which might have interested you, but the weather colluded with other plans to get in the way.
So it will have to wait.
On Tuesday therefore we’ll have an open natter night but will include a teaser on what was planned for these measurements and how it will be done. Any suggestions members have to improve it gratefully received.
There will also be an update on what happened on Sunday with the mast erection party (and the big dish repair).
Jeff also has some information to pass on about the 6M contest that he took part in and on fire marshall training at the club

There are apparently 637 operators signed up worldwide, one of which is Warrington ARC – with thanks to Mike.
You can read more about it here: https://www.qsl.net/va3rj/uploads/world_wide_award_2024_rules.pdf
The club HF station is configured ready to go. We’ve signed up for 4 slots initially –

- Thursday 18th January AM
- Sunday 21st January PM
So if you come along to the coffee morning or Solder Sunday on those days you can help operate the station (or just drink tea and watch)
We can easily sign up for other days/slots/modes/bands should members want to operate at other times – just let Dave (G8KBB) know.
